The
Hermitage Gallery was opened in 1994 in conjunction with Essex Youth Service (Brentwood Locality)
to provide a unique facility for showing the work of young artists.
Now one large gallery room within a beautiful listed building, The Hermitage is situated in Shenfield Road, at the end of Brentwood High Street, and with a history
going back to the 1790's.
The
philosophy of the gallery is to present the work exclusively of artists aged 25
or younger - solo shows, group shows, installations, open art exhibitions, work
from students at schools and colleges. Any
young artists who would like to exhibit at the gallery should get in touch (see
below)
This
Hermitage Virtual Gallery was established by Artswork Essex in 1999 as an extension of the work
of the main gallery. There is an open gallery where young artists can e-mail specific
pictures, as well as solo, experimental and international galleries, where full
shows can be exhibited (for contact see below). The project was made possible
with a grant from the Arts Council of England National Lottery Board and is administered
by Artswork Essex.
